Do you work in Massachusetts? Payroll deductions could begin for many employees on October 1, 2019 for the new Department of Family and Medical Leave (DFML) Employment Security Trust Fund, otherwise known as Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML). Benefits do not begin until January 2021, and some are deferred further to July 2021.
The maximum amount your employer can deduct from your paycheck is .378%. Your employer can elect to pay the entire cost as well. If your employer already has a private plan, they can apply for an exemption from contributions.
Participation is voluntary for self-employed individuals.
